Pier Yvette Alsup Inducted into AACUC’s Hall of Fame

Saint Louis, MO – On August 16th, the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) inducted Pier Yvette Alsup, Together Credit Union’s first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, into its Hall of Fame during a virtual black-tie event kicking off the coalition’s annual conference.

“Having a unique understanding of how to reach a diverse market, Pier evolved to leading the credit union’s strategic community engagement, financial wellness, and DEI efforts. As the DEI space became more widespread, Pier’s focus shifted to elevating her completely towards DEI and the credit union’s pursuit of living its brand promise and core values grounded in the symbiotic principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” the AACUC announced.

As Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, Alsup is responsible for designing initiatives to identify inequities within the organization, implementing policies that overcome barriers to success, fostering an inclusive and engaging culture, and developing diverse recruiting and hiring practices. Additionally, Alsup sponsors the credit union’s Employee Resource Groups, which encourages networking and socialization, creates volunteer and service opportunities, boosts professional development, and raises awareness of relevant topics or issues. She also leads Together Credit Union’s Diversity & Inclusion Council, which empowers its members to serve as thought leaders and champions in advancing Together Credit Union’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude to have been selected as an inductee into the AACUC’s Hall of Fame. I have spent 31 years striving to make a difference in the Credit Union industry, and it means a great deal to me that the work I am passionate about also resonates with my peers,” said Alsup during her acceptance speech. “I want to congratulate our AACUC leaders, past and present, for keeping the dream alive by helping to ensure all voices are present at the table, providing a channel to educate peers and mentor young adults, while playing a key role in promoting the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within the industry.”

The AACUC founded its Hall of Fame in 2008 to honor and recognize African-Americans and allies who have and are contributing to the credit union movement--many who are unsung heroes and trailblazers. To be inducted, candidates must have accomplished or achieved the following: 1) provided more than ten years of service in the credit union industry; 2) worked to provide financial services for people in general; and 3) identify at least four significant accomplishments, which benefited African-Americans’ access to financial capital.

Alsup joined Together Credit Union, formerly Anheuser-Busch Employees' Credit Union, in 1990 as the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, where she led strategic marketing initiatives until 2015. Throughout her tenure in this role, Alsup helped drive the credit union’s growth from $260 million in assets and 55,000 members to more than $1.55 billion in assets and 120,000+ members. Alsup then served as the credit union’s Chief Community Engagement & Social Responsibility Officer from 2015 thru 2020. She developed community outreach and engagement programs and directed financial-wellbeing initiatives, including establishing the Together Foundation, a non-profit serving residents in the St. Louis Metropolitan area through grants and financial empowerment programs. She continues directing the Foundation in her new role.

Alsup holds a Bachelor of Science from DePaul University and a Master’s Degree in Business and Marketing from Webster University. She shares her passion for teaching others as an Adjunct Professor at Washington University’s Olin Business School.
