Saint Louis, MO. September 10, 2019 – This summer, Together Credit Union, through the support of its employees, members, and foundation, has worked to give back to the community by awarding monetary grants and donating collected goods to non-profits serving young people and families-in-need the St. Louis metropolitan area.

“Giving back and creating positive change in the communities where we live and serve is an important part of our culture and identity,” said Pier Yvette Alsup, Chief Community Engagement & Social Responsibility Officer. “Through employee engagement programs, like employee resource groups and employee volunteer programs, we are affecting change in meaningful ways.”

Together Foundation, the Credit Union’s philanthropic/charitable organization, awarded two grants.

• $10,000 awarded to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis for a financial literacy program benefitting Head Start students and parents. Currently, the Urban League’s Head Start program serves 667 children (ages 3-5 years old) who reside in the City of St. Louis, and provides early childhood education services, meals, health and dental exams, and more for low-income children and their families.
• $10,000 awarded to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis in support of their High School Hispanic Leadership Institute (HSHLI), a skills-based leadership-training program with the goal to develop the next generation of Hispanic Leaders in the St. Louis community.

In addition, employees and members the Credit Union collected donations and goods to support the following community organizations.

• $5,000 in support of Building Futures’ Design & Build Workshops, a St. Louis-based nonprofit that annually assists over 650 kids, many of them at-risk, through in-school and after school programming, Saturday workshops, and summer camps.
• $1,300 in support of Backstoppers in honor of Officer Michael Langsdorf.
• 1,000+ school supply items were collected on behalf of KidSmart’s Push for Pencils Community-Wide School Supply Drive.
• 300+ pounds of food was collected on behalf of St. Louis Area Foodbank during the Credit Union’s food drive. After delivering the non-perishable goods, Credit Union employees packed over 5,900 pounds of food for families in need at the Volunteer Center.

Furthermore, in partnership with Entercom Communications, the Credit Union continued its #KindnessCounts campaign by performing random acts of kindness throughout the St. Louis region in celebration of its 80th anniversary. These acts included:

• Partnering with All Among Us, Inc. to teach financial literacy courses to residents at the Women’s Care Center as they transition from general poverty toward self-sufficiency.
• Collecting and delivering professional clothing on behalf of LifeWise StL, formerly known as Kingdom House, and Community Women Against Hardship to help people in need feel confident when applying for jobs.
• Giving treats and supplies for animals and volunteers at Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center.
• Congratulating new dads by delivering Starbucks gift cards to the NICU floor of St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
